Outdoor Lighting Buying Guide
Outdoor lighting has one rule the rest does not: the IP rating. Get that right and everything else is preference.
IP ratings, plainly
- IP44 — a sheltered wall, under an overhang or a porch.
- IP65 — fully exposed to rain.
- Mains outdoor wiring must be installed by a qualified electrician and protected by an RCD.
- Solar lights need several hours of direct daylight on the panel; expect less output in winter.
Before you order
- Check the dimensions. Every Laruya product page lists them, so you can measure the space first.
- Check the power supply. Some fittings are hardwired and need a qualified electrician; others simply plug in.
- Pick your colour temperature. Warm white around 3000K for a relaxed room, cool white around 6000K where you need to see clearly.
